Depression Counseling

If You Are Ready For Change, You Are in The Right Place.

  • Do you lack motivation?
  • Do you wish you had more energy?
  • Are you not as interested in the activities you used to enjoy?
  • When you wake up in the morning, is it hard to get out of bed?
  • Are you afraid you are a burden to those you care about?
  • Are you isolating yourself?
  • Do you feel it is difficult to shake the “blues”?

Perhaps you want to get help, but don’t want to burden others with your problems. You may feel alone. You may be afraid life will always be this difficult. In some ways depression can make it difficult to do any of the things and easier to resign yourself to stillness.  It all seems so hard. If this sounds like you, you may be struggling with depression.

Many people have times in their lives when they feel depressed. We all have ups and downs. Sometimes we know why we are feeling down. Maybe we lost someone we love, or moved, or are not getting along with a loved one. Sometimes we are lonely. Sometimes we feel sad and we don’t know why we are sad. We just are. And we can’t seem to shake it. It doesn’t help when people tell you to just “be happy” or “snap out of it”.  If you would, you could.  It isn’t that easy.  Regardless of the reason you are sad, if there is any reason at all, therapy can help.  It is important to know that when the downs of life don’t pass, you may need support to break the cycle. We all get sad, but depression is different.  We can help you find some joy again. There is hope.

There is a lot of research on depression and what can effectively help alleviate symptoms. Some of the research is around lifestyle changes that could be helpful. Some research is on medications that can be helpful. There is also research around counseling/therapies that can be helpful. At Mountain Vista Psychology, we use a variety of therapeutic approaches that can be helpful for those living with depression. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a therapeutic approach that supports the client in adjusting what they think and what they do to impact how they feel. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has years of research behind it supporting its effectiveness in treating depression. Depending on client history, clients may use EMDR to support them. Most of us have experienced trauma in our lives which can lead to secondary depression. EMDR is helpful in resolving trauma.

Another approach we use at Mountain Vista Psychology is neurofeedback. For those who do not want to take medication or do not respond well to medication, neurofeedback is an amazing option to help support optimal brain functioning and alleviate symptoms of depression. These are only three therapeutic strategies we may use with you to support your mood and help you crawl out from under the dark cloud. There are many other therapies that we provide that may also be helpful, the important thing to know is that you have options! If one thing doesn’t work, there is something else you can try. There is hope. We are here to answer your questions, guide you, and support you through this time.
