You are not alone
There are so many people who struggle with anxiety and don’t even realize anxiety is what they are struggling with. What makes it more confusing is that anxiety takes different forms for different people. You may have generalized anxiety. There is always a sense that something could go wrong. You find yourself worrying and you can’t control it. It is like your brain has a mind of it’s own. You would just like some quiet, but you can’t escape yourself.
You may have social anxiety. You may feel uncomfortable around people and afraid you will be judged. Maybe you will say something silly. Maybe you will not engage the way you would like to. Perhaps the clothes you are wearing are not what you should be wearing. When you are around people you are quiet and feel awkward. It seems so easy for everyone else!
If you get panic attacks, you know how stressful they can be! If this is you, the idea of having another panic attack may even make you feel anxious and throw you into a panic attack. It is so uncomfortable to feel as though your body is out of control!
You may have obsessive-compulsive disorder. There are so many kids and adults you struggle with OCD. Just like other forms of anxiety, OCS can take control of your like and limit how you spend your time. Managing it becomes exhausting!
You may be someone you has a phobia that is impacting your life. Most people are aware of fear of spiders, but there are many other phobia out there. For example, there are many people who are extremely fearful of certain weather or flying.
When you have anxiety, your brain is on hyperalert. It is trying to keep you safe, but it doesn’t realize you already ARE safe.

This is especially helpful because there is not ever one intervention that works well for everyone! You may like and respond well to more traditional talk therapy/Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. But you may still have questions about anxiety counseling
Counseling takes time and money, and you are worried about making this work. You may even feel guilty about taking time and money to go to therapy. Please let us know if you have these concerns so we can work with you around them. We offer some income based sliding scale sessions. Depending on your situation, we may be able to have a fewer number of longer sessions. In this way we can get deeper work done in less sessions. Some people may also be able to space your sessions a little farther apart. Based on your situation and the type of therapy you are engaging in, ask us and we will let you know options that will still be effective for you (for example, coming once a month to talk therapy does not tend to be effective for people).
The good news is that if you can get your anxiety better managed you can start sleeping better and really engage in your life in the way you want to. You can be more present in your relationships. You can also be more productive in your life. These benefits make therapy well worth it!
