- Has your child experienced a traumatic event?
- Maybe you have a child who was adopted and experienced trauma before you met him?
- Perhaps your child has been bullied?
- Maybe your child has lost someone significant in her life?
As a parent, we all want to keep our children safe. Regardless of how had we try, sometimes an event happens that is out of our control. If your child has experienced a traumatic event or events then you know that the impact can be lasting. Their experience of the trauma often shapes the way they interact with the world. It also often shapes how they feel about themselves. Although it would be wonderful to be able to wave a magic wand and take all the pain away, you can’t. What you can do is get your child or teen into counseling. There is research about the effectiveness of counseling to help people move through trauma. Through counseling trauma doesn’t need to have as much control of their life.
At MVP we have counselors who specialize in working with children who have experienced trauma. We have counselors trained in play therapy (the best form of therapy for younger children), EMDR, and neurofeedback. If your child experienced trauma, EMDR is an amazing therapy that can help relieve the pain. EMDR is designated as an effective treatment by the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and many other international health agencies.
We can work with you to support your child as he works through his trauma. Through counseling, children are often able to come to a place where the trauma does not have hold of them in the way it used to. Their anxiety decreases. Behavior improves. They are happier. When healing happens, it not only improves their life in the short term, but their future is also positively impacted.
You can’t take the trauma away, but you can do something about it. To schedule an appointment or a 20 minute free phone consultation please call 720-583-9332.
